1. What is the O-CA Program?

The O-CA (Opening-Career) Program offers students the opportunity to gain real-world experience similar to that of a Capstone Project.

This program allows students to find opportunities that align with their interests—You can customize your career experience, including deciding when you want to work, how many hours per week, and even negotiating job titles and tasks with the companies. Upon completing the program, you can list this experience as an internship on your resume.

The O-CA Program is a joint initiative by the LION-UP Platform and innovative startups designed to help students smoothly transition into their professional careers.

2. Eligibility Criteria

National students have fewer restrictions when participating in the O-CA Program. The main conditions are:

  1. Compliance with School Regulations: Students must ensure that the O-CA Program does not violate their school's regulations. (You can explain this program to your school faculty as similar to a Capstone Project to help them better understand it.) Students should also check their school's policies regarding credit recognition or related rules.
  2. Application Submission: Students must apply to the company offering the O-CA Program and receive approval.

International students generally must meet specific visa requirements to participate in internships in the United States. Through the O-CA (Opening-Career) program, you’ll have the flexibility to choose whether to use OPT or CPT based on your needs.

If you choose to use OPT or CPT, the primary conditions and visa types include the following. However, please prioritize the standards set by your school’s International Student Office (ISO), as these may vary depending on school regulations.

  1. Curricular Practical Training (CPT)
  2. Optional Practical Training (OPT)
  3. Academic Training for J-1 Visa Holders
